THE SHORT

Ampalaya Monologues is a collection of bitter-to-better love and life stories told by artists collectively known as Team Ampalaya, the stories are told through monologues and spoken word poetry.

THE LONG

Stage Play (2015) | First staged in August 2015, Ampalaya Monologues (eng. title: Btter Monologues) is a live event created by Mark Ghosn, it featured a collection of monologues that tell the stories of different characters (mostly millennials) and their bitter experiences with love. For the opening acts, the show featured live musical performances and spoken word poetry. The show was mostly staged in cafes and bars and was later staged in big theatre venues like the Cultural Center of the Philippines and The PETA Theater.

Artist Collective (2018) | Due to its growing community of spoken word artists and monologuists, In February 2018, Ampalaya Monologues became an artist collective, the first of its kind in the Philippines to merge these two types of art forms into one group. Founded by its creator, Mark Ghosn, the artists involved in the show were referred to as Team Ampalaya and what was once a theatrical play was transformed into an art movement that promotes the art of spoken word, monologues, and other solo performances in the Philippines.

Digital (2020) | Today, Team Ampalaya Monologues is focused on creating digital projects. The artists are involved in producing content that will continue to tell bitter-to-better stories in hopes of inspiring audiences to feel better, know better, and be better.

ADAPTATIONS

Book – In 2017, Summit Books released the Ampalaya Monologues Book. The book was published nationwide and included 27 monologues that were performed during the first 2 seasons.

Ampalaya Chronicles – In 2019, iWant TFC and Firestarters Productions launched a TV adaptation of Ampalaya Monologues. The series featured episodes inspired by the monologues and spoken word poetries that were performed on the live shows.
